I recently heard about Funko making a line of breakfast cereals featuring miniature Pop! figures as prizes. Unfortunately I was late to the game. These started hitting shelves in early July and Wave 2 has just been released. I still wanted to see what I could find for myself, better late than never.
These cereals are exclusive to specific retailers, like GameStop and Hot Topic. That's one of the things that makes this a fun hunt. I live near a GameStop but to check out all of the stores that carry these in-person I had to go to a mall.
I went to three different GameStops looking for Mega Man, Hot Topic for Cuphead & Mugman (which I've never played but still wanted to see if I could find it) and BoxLunch for Gollum/Lord of the Rings cereals, but no luck. The people who worked there didn't seem to know much about when or if they'd be getting more but they did tell me they're available online. That's the way it's been for a while with exclusives but with this blog I really wanted to try and stick to the premise of going out and finding collectables in person. I feel like the hunt is half the fun!
So I checked FYE and almost immediately spotted a table with all kinds of junk food where Freddy and Jason Funko's were front and center. Success!
Because these cereals are exclusive to retailers it looks like they set their own prices and FYE seems like it's the most expensive at $12.99 per box (Gamestop wants $7.99 for Mega Man cereal). I look at these as a rare treat and considering the box art and the mini figure inside I think it's worth treating yourself.
So I bought my boxes and prepared myself for breakfast.
Let me start by saying I was very surprised by how much I liked this cereal. It's really good! My first impression was that it tasted like strawberry lemon gelato. Others I've shared it with have said it's more like just strawberry but I swear I get a bit of citrus in the flavor. If this was a regular cereal you could find at the grocery store I would regularly buy it.
The Pocket Pops that are included are amazing. The box has a picture and says the photo is "Not Actual Size" but these are pretty close. I don't have the original Freddy and Jason Funko Pops but I imagine these are the same but shrunk down to the size of their keychain pops.
You'll want to display these guys once you get them out of the box but be careful with Jason. He's very top heavy and wouldn't stand up by himself. Just make sure you lean him up against something. Maybe the hat balances out Freddy because he didn't have that problem, he stood up just fine.
If you're a fan of sweet cereals and these slasher titans, you'll want to pick up Funko's. It's not a lot of cereal, but it's damn good. Plus you get these cool toys and awesome boxes you can display. They'll look great next to your other Freddy or Jason gear, or make a great beginning to a new collection.
